Lammily, the Average-Proportioned Doll with Cellulite, Now Also Gets Her Period

With acne, cellulite and a body designed to match the proportions of an average 19-year-old, Lammily, also known as the "Normal Barbie," has been paving the way for more realistic dolls that promote body positivity. But Lammily’s latest feature is on its way to demystifying something else: our periods.

Doll creator Nickolay Lamm has introduced a $10 "Period Party Kit," filled with 18 reusable pads and liners stickers, doll-sized panties, a calendar with dot stickers and an educational pamphlet explaining menstruation.

"I don’t want to make this a whole political project or anything," Lamm told TIME. "but ... [in] the overall culture...menstruation is very taboo, and not only taboo, but some people use it as an insult."

Lamm’s goal was to further humanize the doll and make periods "not a scary thing."
