In an interview with CNN Espanol, Mexican-born actress, Karla Souza breaks her silence and recounts how she was raped by a well known Mexican director earlier on in her career.
The 32-year-old actress did not mention the culprit but revealed that he targeted her while filming in Mexico. The How To Get Away With Murder star told host Carmen Aristegui on Tuesday that her aggressor manipulated his power to isolate her from the rest of the crew and act inappropriately. When she was the only one of her castmates booked into the same hotel as him he took the opportunity to frequent her room at 2:00 am with the excuse to talk about the film. On occasions when she refused to open the door he would humiliate her in front of others on set. "This was the psychological control that he held over me," she said.
Souza made the shocking admission that she felt she had no other choice.
With tears in her eyes she says, "I ended up yielding to him to kiss me, to touch me in ways I did not want him to touch me and in one of the instances he violently assaulted me and yes, he raped me."
Inspired by the #TimesUp movement she says she has bravely come forward with her story. On Twitter, she says she stands in solidarity with the movement.
I am proud to stand in solidarity with my sisters in Mexico and women around the world whose voices are finally being heard and saying #TIMESUP.

She says it's important to mention that it was only because of these movements that she was able to recognize that what she went through was an abuse of sexual assault.
