One in five women in Oaxaca, Mexico give birth in a location other than a hospital or clinic, and Irma Lopez, unfortunately, was no exception.

According to the Associated Press, the 29-year-old indigenous woman arrived at a health center on October 2, only to be turned away by a nurse who didn't believe she was ready to deliver her baby, based on the fact Lopez was eight months pregnant.

Lopez was told to leave the center and return in the morning, when a doctor would then check her. Nearly two hours after being denied care, Lopez went into labor. Her water broke and she found herself squatting in the grass delivering her third child without any medical assistance.

"I didn't want to deliver like this. It was so ugly and with so much pain," the mother of three told the AP.

Oaxaca's government has now suspended the center's director and officials have launched an investigation behind this incident.
