Hurricane season has started early in the Pacific. Hurricane Barbara made landfall on Mexico's southern coast on Wednesday. This is the second earliest hurricane landfall since 1966, according to MSN.
Although it was just a category 1 hurricane, Barbara caused major evacuations in the state of Chiapas and left two people dead. One victim was 61-year-old surfer from the U.S. and the other a 26-year-old Mexican who drowned trying to cross a local creek.
In addition, twelve Mexican fishermen are missing after going out to sea before knowledge of the hurricane hit the area on Monday night. Hurricane Barbara has since downgraded from a tropical storm to a tropical depression, reports the US National Hurricane Center.
