This Homophobic Cartoon Teaches Children to “Change” Same-Sex Couples

The days of problematic religious cartoons are not behind us (we’re looking at you, VeggieTales). On Tuesday, the Jehovah’s Witnesses Watch Tower Society published an animated video that encourages youngsters to persuade same-sex couples to leave their sinful ways behind them and trade their partners in for someone of their opposite gender.

In the cartoon, One Man, One Woman, a cutesy little girl notices a classmate drawing an image of her lesbian mommies. When the young girl gets home, she tells her mom about the peculiar drawing, prompting a conversation on why Jehovah isn’t a fan of homosexuality.

“Carrie drew two mommies,” the niña says. “She told me they’re married to each other. My teacher says that all that matters is that people love each other and that they’re happy.”

“Hmm. Well, people have their own ideas about what is right and wrong, but what matters is how Jehovah feels,” the mother responds, citing scriptures to explain to her daughter that the only way to find true joy is through a heterosexual marriage.

The mami then makes a strange comparison to push her message further.

“It’s kind of like going on an airplane,” she says. “What would happen if someone tried to bring something on the airplane that wasn’t allowed? It’s the same with Jehovah, he wants us to be his friend and live in paradise forever.”

Excited about her lesson and ready to spread the news, the young girl cannot wait to return to school to tell her classmate about “Paradise,” “animals” and the “Resurrection.”
