Abuelita Blasa did not come to play this election season.
On Voto Latino's Medium page, Cindy Medina wrote the story about her Grandmother Blasa, who truly knows the value of her vote in this election.
Born in San Buenaventura, Chihuahua, Mexico in 1920, she was orphaned at 12 but married her husband — a U.S. citizen — at 33 years old. After a life of raising 10 children and being a stay at home mom, there are so many things she never got the chance to do. One of these things? Registering to vote.
So when Medina helped register her grandmother to vote and drove her down with the family to cast an early ballot, you can only imagine how excited she was. "She knew what she was there [for] and picked the candidates after becoming informed on the candidates and where they stood on issues that mattered most to her," her granddaughter wrote.
Abuelita Blasa also hopes to motivate other abuelos and abuelas like her to vote with their families who are eligible on November 8th.
