Last week, DeJesus’ kidnapper Ariel Castro was sentenced to life without parole, plus an additional 1,000 years. For over a decade, the former school bus driver held DeJesus, Amanda Berry, and Michelle Knight in captivity in his home. The women were raped, beaten, and forced to wear dog leashes while naked by Castro.
Last month, the three survivors shared a video with the world - the first time all three addressed the public since their rescue.
Aida Cruz also spotted DeJesus at the parade, and shared how she felt when she saw the kidnap and rape survivor.
“I got emotional when I saw her. I got a granddaughter back there, looked like she was about to cry,” Cruz said. “It was just very emotional.”
DeJesus’ father, Felix DeJesus, spoke to FOX 8 about his daughter’s recovery.
“It was a blessing and the biggest miracle in the city of Cleveland,” he said. DeJesus added that his daughter, Knight and Berry “are doing beautiful.”
