The rapper sat with CNN Wednesday morning (October 4) to share his efforts and thoughts. Regarding his collaboration with Tidal and Jay Z, Fat Joe mentioned their initial plans to send 1 plane over carrying 200,000 pounds worth of supplies. As of now, they have been able to fill five planes, and they plan on filling five more. The Bronx native credited the city of New York, and especially his borough, for being able to collect a total of 2 million pounds of canned food, water, women’s hygiene products, toothpaste, and other survival necessities. He assured the live newsfeed that half of the supplies would be sent to Mexico, and the other half to Puerto Rico.
Fat Joe also gave a special shoutout to Governor Andrew Cuomo and current bronx president Rubén Díaz Jr, calling them each a “blessing and angel.” He is surely aware of other tragic events that have occurred recently, adding, “I Have to send prayers to our brothers and sisters in Vegas. What happened there is something i’ve never seen before in my life. I’ve been praying all night for them.”
What has happened in Puerto Rico hit home for Fat Joe, revealing, “I have aunts and uncles in puerto rico i still haven't talked to. I don’t know if they’re dead or alive. There’s no communication or power. People wait on line 6 or 7 hours to get 3 bottles of water and a little something to feed the family. We have to motivate ourselves. The most powerful force in the universe is people power. It’s stronger than any nation, government, or ideology.”
When asked about Trump comparing the damages and death counts in Puerto Rico to Hurricane Katrina, Fat Joe responded, “16 quickly turned to 34...I love the mayor of Puerto Rico although I don't know her personally. My message to her is victory is always possible for the person that refuses to stop fighting.”
