Legendary Puerto Rican Salsa Star Dies

In a tragic turn of events on Friday night, legendary salsa star Eddie Perez has passed away. 

He was a co-founded of the famed Puerto Rican salsa band, El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico. The band had recently celebrated 50 years of playing music and are largery considered Puerto Rico's most successful musical group. 

Eddie was admitted to a hospital for a foot amputation and his daughter Mariel has told the Associated Press that he died from a blood infection after the procedure. Although she declined to provide his age at the time of death, the saxophonist has been playing music for over 60 years since the age of 13. He and Rafael Ithier were the only remaining founding members in the band. 

Friends and family will miss the star nicknamed "La Bala" (or "The Bullet") and his contribution to Puerto Rican salsa.
