In the wake of the catastrophic damages caused by category five hurricane Hurricane Maria, Puerto Rico is in a dire situation. The island has little to no resources to stay afloat and millions across the United States have been pulling together to provide relief for the victims. Many celebrities have used their voice and platform to raise awareness for the unfathomable conditions, and have been very generous with their donations.
Back in Puerto Rico, though, people are left with no choice but to volunteer, even in the smallest way, to accelerate the country’s repair and bring everyone back on their feet. In Guaynabo, Puerto Rico, a group of volunteers were working together to clear fallen branches and debris off of the roads, in an attempt to make a dent in the restorations needed. One of the volunteers’ dog was determined to do his part as well.
Nico the dog, went viral after being recorded picking up a large branch with his mouth, and transporting it away to an area adjacent to the road, on a pile of fallen trees.
The charitable hound is a Belgian Malinois who grew to fame with over 2.3 million Facebook views. According to Daily Mail, Nico’s owner, Ricardo Hernandez Carro, describes him as a smart dog who learns very quickly. He added, 'He saw what we were doing and decided to help out on his own!' They say dogs are a man’s best friend and we wholeheartedly agree.
Nico struggled at first, but volunteers in the background were still amused and proud, and can be heard on the video saying, ‘good boy!’ And what a good boy he is! You go, Nico! Watch for yourself below:
