According to paleontologist Felisa Aguilar, her team uncovered roughly half of the dinosaur, which was 36 feet (12 meters) long and estimated to have lived about 72 million years ago. Hip bones were also found.
Francisco Aguilar, INAH's director in the border state of Coahuila, said dinosaur remains have been found in many parts of Coahuila.
"We have a very rich history of paleontology," he said.
Reuters reports that the team that identified the fossil tail as that of a duck-billed dinosaur was made up of archaeologists and students from INAH and the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM).
