A New Mexico father is facing jail time after beating up a naked voyeur who was watching his teenage daughters through their bedroom window.

Emilio Chavez III was at his Albuquerque home when he heard a noise at around 2:30 a.m. and discovered a naked man outside his daughters room. The "Peeping Tom" was allegedly groaning and peering into the window.

According to the Albuquerque Journal, Chavez became angry and chased the alleged prowler, Dylan Maho. Maho was badly beaten by Chavez, his son, and a son’s friend, and was booked into the hospital in critical condition.

Maho was charged with felony voyeurism, and could serve up to two years in prison if convicted.

However, he’s not the only one who could be facing prison time. Chavez could be charged with aggravated battery. If convicted, he faces a stiffer penalty than Maho, and could be jailed for up to three years.

Police were quick to sanction Chavez vigilante behavior. Albuquerque Police Officer Tasia Martinez told KRQE radio station, “We have a lot of concerns when victims provoke any kinds of attackers, even if it’s with good reason.”

Some in the community disagree. Chavez’s neighbor Bill Morang told a local radio station that he thought Chavez was “well within his rights chasing him down and beating him.”

What do you think? Do you agree that this father should serve jail time? Tell us in the comments!
