Young Boy Dies from Brain-Eating Amoeba

The infection had done extensive damage to Zachary's brain during a short period of time.

According to Fox News Latino, Florida officials have cited federal statistics showing that 28 infections were reported in the U.S. from 2003 to 2012.mostly from exposure to contaminated recreational water.

Victims normally contract this type of infection while swimming or doing water sports during the hot summer months and mostly in the South.

Our hearts go out to Zachary's family and friends.
