Ariel Castro Pleads Not Guilty

Ariel Castro, the man accused of holding three women captive in his Cleveland home for nearly a decade, pleaded not guilty on Wednesday to all charges.

People reports that the grand jury has charged Castro with two counts of aggravated murder related to purposely causing the unlawful termination of one woman’s pregnancy, and was indicted on 139 counts of rape, 177 counts of kidnapping, seven counts of gross sexual imposition, three counts of felonious assault and one count of possession of criminal tools.

Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus and Michelle Knight are all hoping for a just and prompt resolution, according to a statement made on their behalf. Castro’s legal team is hoping to avoid a trial involving the death penalty.

Castro continues to remain held on an $8 million bail.
