Ariel Castro Accepts Plea Deal, Avoids Death Penalty

CNN reports that an attorney for the three kidnapped women said that the women were hoping for a plea deal because they did not want to have to take the stand during Castro's trial. And Castro's defense team had been hoping for a deal that would eliminate capital punishment.

Castro was charged with 977 counts which include aggravated murder under suspicion that the Cleveland man ended the pregnancy of one his alleged captives.
