13-Year-Old Kills Older Brother to Take Over Family Drug Dealing Business

7th grader Mykel Mendes is being accused by Massachusetts Police of masterminding a plot that left his 17-year-old brother Jordan dead. Authorities are saying that the murder was fueled by Mykel’s jealousy of Jordan, who, following the arrest of their father Manuel Mendes, was left to take over the lucrative family drug dealing business.

Antonio Villaraigosa Wins Re-Election, Fuels Talk That He Could Become Governor

Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, who was re-elected for a second term yesterday, told a crowd of his supporters, "I stand before you all humbled tonight, humbled by your support and by your confidence."

Villaraigosa won the election easily after a rocky start to his first term, which saw the dissolution of his marriage due to an affair with a local TV news anchor, and the defeat of his plan to reform city schools.

Indictment in Jose Sucuzhañay Hate Crime Murder

Hakim Scott, 25, and Keith Phoenix, 28, were indicted on charges of second-degree murder as a hate crime in the beating death of Jose Sucuzhañay, and first-degree assault as a hate crime in the attack on his brother, Romel. The two are accused of killing Sucuzhañay while shouting slurs about his ethnicity and sexuality. Prosecutors said Tuesday that they are also pursuing charges for additional crimes that could send them to prison for up to 78 years if convicted.

UPDATE: Arrest Warrant Issued for Salvadorean Immigrant in Chandra Levy Murder Case

Washington D.C. police recently announced that they will be issuing an arrest warrant for Salvadorean Ingmar Guandique, 27, in connection to the eight-year-old murder of Chandra Levy; one of the most famous unsolved crimes in Washington D.C.’s history.

Levy was a 24-year-old intern for the federal Bureau of Prisons at the time of her murder. A series of missteps by the D.C. police department as well as intense media scrutiny involving congressman Gary Condit—who was involved in an extramarital affair with the intern—all served to complicate the case.

Mexican Drug Cartel Threatens Guatemalan President

Mexican gunmen from the Gulf’s drug cartel, Los Zetas, have threatened to assassinate Guatemalan President Alvaro Colom. The National Civilian Police received the threat on Saturday that Los Zetas would assassinate the president later that day. Security around the president was tightened and no attempts were reported.
