The 23-year-old football tight end was arrested on June 26 (and later dropped by the Patriots) after Lloyd was found dead in an industrial park near his house. Both Hernandez and Lloyd were acquaintances and had been hanging out with two other people hours before Lloyd was killed. Since then, Hernandez had been at the center of an investigation involving the shooting death.
Robert Kraft, owner of the Patriots, has spoken out about the news surrounding Hernandez, telling reporters recently that he was “duped.”
“If this stuff is true, I've been duped, and our whole organization has been duped," he said. At the time of Hernandez’s arrest, Kraft was vacationing. According to USA Today, he told reporters that the team had planned on releasing Hernandez if he was arrested on any charges related to the investigation.
