On Saturday night, a gunman broke into a home in northern Mexico and shot and killed nine people while they were watching a soccer game.
According to authorities, twenty people were home at the time of the shooting. Seven were instantly killed at the scene and two others died at the hospital. The victims were between 26 and 58-years-old, authorities said. While the motive for the shooting is still unknown, Prosecutors believe it is drug-related.
A 32-year-old armed suspect has been arrested. According to Nuevo Leon Prosecutor, Bernardo Gonzalez Garza, the neighbors shared that the home was a common point for drug sales and another incident that took a life occurred at the same location last year.
The deadly incident is one of the hundreds the Latin American country has seen, resulting in the highest murder rate surge in decades. Mexico's interior ministry reported 29,168 murders in 2017.
