The shooting of Travyon Martin was, without a question, one of the biggest news stories this year. On Feb. 26, 2012, the unarmed 17-year-old was shot by George Zimmerman, a Latino crime watch volunteer in Sanford, Fla. The teen’s death set off a national outcry and fits of rage, which ultimately led to the opening of an investigation in March. As more details surrounding Trayvon’s shooting emerged, it seemed as though everyone developed an opinion about it. Who could forget when Fox News host Geraldo Rivera said the slain teen was partially responsible for his death because he was wearing a hoodie at the time. And there was the hoodie movement, which spread like wildfire.
The case is still ongoing.
