Two miners were killed and a third critically injured when an accidental explosion ripped through a copper and gold mine in Chile—not far from where the heroic rescue of 33 Chilean miners occurred just weeks ago.
The miners were working in a new mine called Los Reyes, just 30 miles away from Copiapo. The San Jose mine where the 33 were saved is on the outskirts of Copiapo.
Officials say that the blast was caused by the accidental detonation of dynamite. The two deceased miners were identified as as Homero Aguirre, 40, and Daniel Lazcano, 26 reports CNN. The third miner lost his eye, but was in stable condition. It was the their first day at work in the new Los Reyes mine.
