Sonia Sotomayor Confirmed as First Latina Supreme Court Justice

The Senate just voted 68-31 in favor of confirming Judge Sonia Sotomayor, officially making her the first Latina Supreme Court Justice in the history of the United States
We were moved to tears here in the Latina offices, similarly to how we felt on the evening on Nov. 6, 2008, when Barack Obama became the first African American President. Sonia Sotomayor—like President Obama—has a history deeply rooted in perseverance, education and the love of family and country.
It's been a long time coming, but we are elated to know that Sotomayor's strength, conviction and wisdom will continue to inspire young women for generations to come. Her nomination proves to us all that no matter where we come from, or what obstacles we face, anything truly is possible.
Congratulations to our newest Supreme Court Justice, Sonia Sotomayor!

I am still reveling in the excitement. Much respect to Sonia Sotomayor for achieving such greatness and in defining what it means to be a Wise Latina. It's not about race. It's about releasing deep insecurities and rising above the insurmountable. It's so wonderful this is all happening in my lifetime: OBAMA and SOTOMAYOR.

I can't even explain how much my heart is bursting with pride! I'm so glad that all of our little girls will have such a wonderful and inspiring role model to look up to. As a boricua from the Bronx, this feeling couldn't get any better!
