Shakira to Perform at Obama's Inauguration

According to Peruvian newspaper El Comercio, Colombian superstar Shakira will be performing at President Elect Barack Obama’s inaugural celebration to be held in Washington D.C. January 20th, 2009. Linda Douglas, a spokeswoman for the Presidential Inaugural Committee has refused to confirm or deny reports, saying only that announcements on official performers for Obama's Inauguration are "way down the road."

The Obama/Shakira lovefest began back when Barack was still campaigning. Shakira, although unable to vote here in the USA, vocally supported the President Elect and publicly endorsed him back in October saying, "Obama can restore peace and the world's confidence in the United States." Obama appreciated the support and said at the time, "It's an honor for me to receive support from someone with so much talent, from an artist who has been so generous," referring to the work Shakira has done with the non-profit organizations ALAS and Pies Descalzos which help children in need throughout Latin America. The Illinois senator went on to praise Shakira as a role model for young Latinas in the U.S. and beyond. Michelle, we'd keep a close eye on those famous hips of Shakira's if we were you!
