"Rape Trees" Found Along Southern US Border

Julian Cardona

The violence in Mexico is out of control and undeniably headed north. From beheadings to kidnappings, there seems to be no limit to what the cartels are willing to do to assert their dominance. They deal not only in drugs, but also in humans. The majority of the coyotes who help illegal immigrants cross the border are affiliated with these Mexican cartels.

Although many politicians would like to believe that the violence will stay to the south of the border, the reality is that it has already begun to affect South Western states. The revelation that Phoenix is now the "kidnapping capital" of the United States only affirms what many residents already knew.

A new method of marking territory has crossed over into the United States. "Rape trees" are popping up in Southern Arizona and their significance is horrific and disgusting. These "rape trees" are places where cartel members and coyotes rape female border crossers and hang their clothes, specifically undergarments, to mark their conquest and territory.

Sen. Jonathan Paton (R-Tucson), recently invited officials to describe the problems being faced in his home state to the Senate Judiciary Committee, which he chairs. Paton said violence along the border has escalated dramatically in the past year, "We want to go after these crimes," he insisted, "It’s an unbelievable situation, and we can’t allow that to go on in this country."

something's fishy with this story: 1) coyotes work w/ the permission of the cartels, so carteleros probably discourage freelance coyotes & if they infringe on a cartels territory they might get a message, but why would either group want to wreck business in their own territory? I suspect it's something like a competing cartel or minuteman type ploy to discourage illegal immigration. old clothes are easy to hang on a tree. 2) this website is for women, Latinas especially. thats a target audience. An astute reporter would follow the money.
This is so horribly twisted + evil. The perpetrators MUST be stopped. It must be addressed on both sides of the border. I pray for the safety of these women + children. Let's not forget that these animals rape children, male + female as well. The guilty should HANG FROM SAID TREES for their crimes of rape/sodomy/+ sexual violence.
Reply to HATE: Anger is poision, so, I am sure you are dead by now. If we all learned to live where "we" belong we would not have the United States of America. I agree that people should be here legally however, to say that they are to stupid because they don't do anything about their condition, is a stupid statement in itself. I would add the word "really" but that would be redundant, as you cannot change stupid, (coma here), stupid. Or do I have to draw you a picture? Thanks for letting me have my say, TD:)
To Wenonachona: Ditto, to your response. I wrote my Congressman about this matter, among others. Thanks for letting me have my say, TD:)
I am also horrified at this problem. Women are suffering at the hands of these monsters. Bordertowns are poorly policed if at all, and corruption is everywhere in Mexico. Our U.S. Government should do more here on our problems, and leave the middle east to solve their own problems. Mexico and our bordertowns need a closer look.
These rapes have been going on for DECADES! John Quinones did a story on this matter many years ago. The corruption and violence in Mexico has also been going on for decades. Did you all know that in the early ages, religious people were not allowed to wear their attire in public. Yes, this is true. We are now having to take action because it is creeping across the border and, now in the hardest of economic time of our society. I think Arizona or New Mexico is now the capital of kidnapping in the U.S., DUE ONLY TO THE MEXICANS and the DRUGGIES. Monterrey Mexico had alluded this problem up until two years ago when it hit them as well. The Mexican government is to blame since corruption has always existed in Mexico within the government. Take the Harvard educated Degotari, who raped all of Mexico and stole hundreds of millions of dollars from the country. By the way, this is a fact..just research it. Clinton handed him a check before they both left office. Of all the Presidents of Mexcico, he is the number one rapists and thief, as are his family members. Thanks for letting me have my say, TD:)
I am so horrified by this story, I don't even know what to do with myself. The violence in Mexico is beyond terrible and to hear that these disgusting "rape trees" are on our soil is beyond terrifying. I can't believe this isn't a national story on tv yet, or have I missed it? Seriously! This is a huge deal and the US must do something about it. Is this damn economy getting in the way of our government handling horrifying crimes like this? And please, I would love to hear from anyone out there if they heard of this story before reading it on latina.com. I'm hoping I just have missed the nightly news on this topic and that it isn't being ignored.
