Racists Using Swine Flu As Excuse to Promote Hate

The frenzy over swine flu has spurred another potentially deadly outbreak: racist hate-mongering against Mexicans and Mexican-American immigrants. Conservative journalists and scared American citizens are looking for someone, anything to blame for this still small global outbreak. With no proof to support his beliefs, California radio jock Michael Savage said, "Make no mistake about it: Illegal aliens are the carriers of the new strain of human-swine avian flu from Mexico." He also added that it would be a good idea to avoid contact with illegal immigrants, insisting that people who eat out are "morons who eat in restaurants with illegals all over the kitchen." Fox News columnist Michelle Malkin also weighed in with frightening commentary: "I've blogged for years about the spread of contagious diseases from around the world into the U.S. as a result of uncontrolled immigration."
Rampant misinformation has even motivated the ALIPAC, or Americans For Legal Immigration, to ask Congress to shut down the U.S.-Mexico border in order to contain the swine flu. And talk show host Neal Boortz has gone so far as to suggest Islamic terrorists created the deadly flu strain and introduced it to Mexicans as a sneaky way to spread it to the U.S. "What better way to sneak a virus into this country than to give it to Mexicans....then spread a rumor that there are construction jobs here, and there they come," Boortz stated.
Perhaps the scariest thing is that these ignorant people with large platforms aren’t feeling any repercussions from their comments. Why are certain public figures allowed to be so openly racist and hateful? Is it because many people find an odd comfort in placing the blame on a group they consider to be outsiders? Members of the Latino community are marginalized enough as it is, and this level of hate-talk is only making things worse. "It's a virus. Any of us can get it,” says Lalo Rios, a radio DJ in Reno, Nevada. “Closing the borders is not going to help. Pointing the finger at certain groups isn't going to help anything either.”

I am Of Mexican Indian and Northen European descent and I feel Racism is completly wrong. I mean we are all human and all trying to Achieve a good Life.
On May 1st There was a Person in a May Day Protest with a sign saying "Stop Swine Flu, Close the Borders" How Friggen Ignorant. The Police told him to leave the area for his protection, (Ya of Course cause he would've got his racist arse Kicked)
I personally feel that people from other countries should be able to migrate in search of a better life. After all New York, Philadelphia, Boston and Many other East Coast cities were called home by many people of Irish, Italian, and German descent
Yes, there are people in Mexico that have came down with Swine Flu, But Mexicans are not the cause of the Flu. Many other countries have swine Flu cases too. So do we blame the other citizens of those countries, HECK NO, Unfortunately there are a bunch of racist whities that cannot comprehend that because someone is different from them, they are Wrong, BULL PUCKY
@Lala, I definetly agree with you on ur statement About this country would not be where it is Without Mexicans
To Paraphrase the Great 80's thrash Metal band Anthrax, "It doesn't matter how you wear your hair it's whats inside your head"
My Motto is "Skin Color Doesn't matter It's what's Inside Your Heart"
During one of my High School years I went out with an African-American Gal and thought nothing of it. Me Mumz treated her like one of her own.
I can't fathom why some one would want to be racist cause you miss out on learning about different cultures which are fascinating
Sorry about the length of the post But it's what I feel.

I feel that the majority of Anglos do not feel this way about Mexicans. Conservative racist Republicans only make up about 20% of the USA but they have big ignorant mouths. I dislike these haters also. They are miserable negative people that need to make themselves feel better by putting other people down.
I am a short, unbleached blond Anglo, who believes that diversity is what makes this country great. Michael Savage, Michelle Malkin, and Neal Boortz are going to burn in hell along with all the other hateful, stupid people in this world.

I am so tired of everything being blamed on MEXICANS! So the swine flu might have started in Mexico. so what!!!....people are acting like it is the end of the world. If you read the facts, this flu is just like any other flu. The "flu" alone killed thousands of Americans in 2008! why was a big deal not made of that? This new case just gives ignorant white america a chance to further discriminate against us Mexicans!!! But without Mexicans (legal or illegal) this country would not be where it is. And that is a fact!!!

OMG! Mexico just cannot get a break! WTF are these people the only ones that come into the US illegally! Mexicans do not fit the Anglos criteria of white skin, tall, blond hair and blue eyes. They will never be accepted. Of course its not to generalize because Mexicans are not all the same. I know this because I am Mexican and it really bothers me that they are constantly portrayed so negatively in the media. Give mexico a break USA and pick on someone your own size...I just find it so funny that apparently their are reported cases all over the world but the only ones dying are Mexican citizens in Mexico. This is definitley a consipiracy.
