Playboy Mexico Apologizes for Sexual Depiction of Virgin Mary

Playboy Mexico has come under fire for a recent pictorial in which they (barely) dressed their cover model as the Virgin Mary. The controversial cover first started making headlines last week and since, Playboy magazine has apologized for any offense that may have been taken saying, "While Playboy Mexico never meant for the cover or images to offend anyone, we recognize that it has created offense, and we as well as Playboy Mexico offer our sincerest apologies."

The cover was on newsstands last Thursday, the day before the Mexican festival honoring Mary known as the Day of the Virgin of Guadalupe. We must commend Playboy for their fantastic timing on that one! The cover featured appropriately named model Maria Florencia Onori wearing nothing but a white cloth draped over her head in a way that calls to mind the iconic images of the Virgin Mary from nativity scenes. The headline reads, "Te Adoramos Maria" or "We Adore You Mary" a play on the religious sentiment behind the image.

Father Albert Cutie a Mexican priest and host of Radio La Paz told CNN, "How many nativity scenes are out there this time of the year? How many times is Mary a central figure in this whole celebration? And this is
offensive. This is very offensive. It's blasphemous."

Tell us: What do you think about the cover image? Are you offended?
