The Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund or MALDEF is planning a huge concert this fall to help build awareness around it's educational campaign to spread truth about immigration in America.

Featuring performances by Los Lobos and Los Tigres del Norte, the concert will be held in the Gibson Amphitheater in Los Angeles, California on September 28, 2010. Nancy Agosto, National Census Director for MALDEF told Latina.com, "The best way to gather people is through entertainment & music! Both Los Lobos and Los Tigres del Norte make music about our pueblo and our gente. We're bringing two legends together for one historic concert."

The controversy surrounding immigration has reached an all-time high in this country. With hate crimes against Latinos on the rise, unconstitutional laws being passed or considered in more than 20 states and a dialogue in the mainstream media that grows more divisive every day, MALDEF wanted to take the opportunity to educate our communities about the real impact immigration has on the United States.

"Immigrants bring progress to this country and contribute to this country," Agosto says. "Now that immigration in hot topic, we want to find trusted voices in our community to come together and speak out for truth in immigration."

Mariela Rosario,

I'm a raging opinionista and I love to share my ramblings on everything from pop culture to food to stuff that makes me laugh & cry! I've worked in all types of media (TV, film, print) and was previously the online editor at Latina magazine before joining Mamás Latinas. On most nights you can find me working my way through my library of cookbooks or playing with my puppy Lola (my only child so far). I have a wonderful hubby who shares my passion for any and all kinds of travel. Together, we've formed a semi-professional wine drinking team.
