Right-wing conservative website Humanevents.com recently posted an incredibly vile, nasty and racist parody of the Jose Feliciano song, "Feliz Navidad." It took us a few attempts before we could even get through the whole ditty—written by Matt Fox and AJ Rice, producers for Talk Radio Network—without wanting to punch something. Humanevents.com regularly hosts commentary from pundits such as Ann Coulter and Pat Buchanan and touts a recently posted article by Virgil Goode which essentially urges the government to completely close down the country to all immigrants, so we can't say we're completely shocked that this song turned up there. It's the level of racism, ignorance and hate demonstrated by the song that completely dumbfounds us. Here's the MP3 of the "satire" with the lyrics written out below:
Illegal Aliens in My Yard:
Illegals in my yard. (repeat 3X)
Throw then some pesos and they work so hard.
Illegals in my yard. (repeated 3X)
I don’t even ask if they got green card.
They’re going to pave up my driveway this Christmas. They’re going to clean all my cars this Christmas. They’re going to shovel all the snow this Christmas. Those illegals in my yard.
They’re going to dig me a pool this Christmas. They’re going to landscape my law this Christmas. They’re going to cook me up some tacos this Christmas. Those illegals in my yard.
Illegals in my yard. (repeated 3X)
Sixteen arrive in a stolen car.
Illegals in my yard. (repeated 3X)
When they’re not working, they sit at the bar.
They’re going to drink some cervezas this Christmas. They’re going to shoot some tequila this Christmas. They’re going to get DUIs this Christmas. Those illegals in my yard.
They’re getting free organ transplants this Christmas. They’re going to have anchor babies this Christmas. They’re going to scream “sí, se puede” this Christmas. Those illegals in my yard.
Illegals in my yard. (repeated 3X)
One at a time run past those border guards.
Illegals in my yard. (repeated 3X)
Hugo Chavez sends his kind regards.
They’re going to tackle Pat Buchanan this Christmas.
They’re going to chase down Lou Dobbs this Christmas.
They’re going to join up with La Raza this Christmas.
Those illegals in my yard.
They’re going to spread bubonic plague this Christmas.
They’re going to bring me lots of bed bugs this Christmas.
They’re going to pass tuberculosis this Christmas.”
Those illegals in my yard.
This appalling parody of Jose Feliciano's most popular
song seemed incredible until this week when we saw on
national television people in Washington protesting the
health reform bill by insulting and spitting on Congressional
legislators.
But I hope Senor Feliciano won't give up his extraordinary
work in bridging cultures. Few people who pretend to
object to illegal immigration really care or notice whether
the targets of their scorn are actually "legal" or "illegal".
It's that they are Hispanic, and to that awful reality, Senor
Feliciano speaks in a voice that no one in his right mind
can fail to respect.
Te amo, Jose.
