Latino Candidates in Unlikely Election Races

Latinos are undeniably going to make an impact in the 2010 elections—both at the ballot box and as candidates. We even have Hispanics running in states that don't have large Latino populations!

Idaho's only Latino State Representative, Republican Raúl Labrador, is trying to unseat his Democratic opponent, incumbent Walt Minnick for a congressional seat.

Republican Mark Leyva is running for congress against Democratic incumbent Peter Viscolosky in Indiana. And in Washington, Republican state Representative Jaime Herrera is running against Democrat Denny Heck for the senate.

"Latinos have been able to launch candidacies in 41 states, just about anywhere," Arturo Vargas, executive director at the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials, told Fox News Latino. “That is pretty remarkable.”
