After being approved by the Senate Judiciary Committee on
July 28, a full senate vote is expected this week for federal Judge Sonia
Sotomayor
to become the first Latino Supreme Court Justice. While it is almost
certain that Sotomayor will be confirmed by the Democratic-controlled Senate,
Republican Sen. John McCain says he is still on the fence when it comes to
his vote.

McCain spoke to CNN’s State of the Union on Sunday and said that he is examining Sotomayor's
record as an appeals court judge to decide whether she understands the limits
to judicial power. He voted against her when she was nominated to the appeals
court. However, he added that she is a great American success story. At least five Republican
senators have declared their intention to support Sotomayor.
