25-year-old Transsexual Spaniard to Give Birth to Twins

25-year-old Ruben Noe Coronado is expected to give birth to twin boys at the end of September. Coronado, originally born Estefania, was in the process of getting a sex change when he decided to try to get pregnant.

He made the decision to postpone the gender reassignment surgery when his partner, Esperanza Ruiz, 43, found out that she was no longer able to have babies (she has 2 children from a previous relationship). Coronado then started fertility treatments so that he could become pregnant.

Ruben is the first Spanish transsexual to become pregnant and is set to become the world's first transsexual father of twins. When asked about all the media scrutiny, Coronado told the Daily Telegraph, "To protect my children I'm not going to sell my story now or in the future. I've gone public with this so people start to see a transsexual pregnancy as normal. But I am thinking of selling the picture everyone's going to want of me looking pregnant. If I don't do it, someone else will and they'll make a fortune."

Mariela Rosario,

I'm a raging opinionista and I love to share my ramblings on everything from pop culture to food to stuff that makes me laugh & cry! I've worked in all types of media (TV, film, print) and was previously the online editor at Latina magazine before joining Mamás Latinas. On most nights you can find me working my way through my library of cookbooks or playing with my puppy Lola (my only child so far). I have a wonderful hubby who shares my passion for any and all kinds of travel. Together, we've formed a semi-professional wine drinking team.
