Our Modern Latina Bride Goes Dress Shopping With Mami!

While I was still working on other details of the wedding I realized my mom had been patiently waiting for me to call on her. My sister (her only other daughter) eloped, so you can imagine her excitement to be involved in my wedding. I learned early on in this process that if you involve too many people you will get frustrated if they impose on your decision-making, so my plan was to try and include the people close to me in individual things, making it special for them as well. My mom loves clothes and shopping, so naturally I wanted her to shop with me for my wedding dress. I also feel that when a daughter tries on her wedding dress for the first time it’s a beautiful milestone moment for both mother and daughter.

As we began our search, I was prepared for this to be super time-consuming—after all, I’ve heard it can take months to find THE perfect dress. After visiting a few boutiques, my co-worker recommended The Bridal Garden, which is a not-for-profit bridal boutique that has a plethora of designer and couture dresses for a relatively super cheap price. What I like about this boutique is you’re able to find a dress within whatever your budget is and luckily for me I found many that I loved—four to be exact—and they fit me perfectly!

With so many choices and factors to take into account, I just couldn’t decide on one. I am more of a simple gal, so I don’t want something too stuffy or over-the- top. Yet Hec (the man whose breath I ultimately want to take away) had casually mentioned how he’d like to see me if a poufy “princess” dress. Since it is a day wedding, it begs the question: What is the appropriate gown? I want the perfect dress that encompasses all the factors I’m considering.

Below are a few dresses that fit different styles of weddings. Take a look and let me know which style you like. You’ll find out what I chose when you see wedding pics!

1. Vineyard 50’s Inspired Lace Dress

This Vineyard 50’s inspired lace dress is ironically a non-traditional wedding dress nowadays, but it’s a beautiful yet fun and feminine day dress that will show off your shoes too!

2. White by Vera Wang ball gown

If it were up to Hec, he would see me in something like this whimsical White by Vera Wang ball gown that is usually what we all envision when you think a classic wedding dress.

3. J.Crew Grecian Dress

This J.Crew Grecian-looking dress has an understated elegance that I love and seems to be a dress you can dance in with ease throughout your reception.

4. Vineyard Trumpet Style Dress

This vineyard trumpet style dress has a more sexy and sophisticated feel to it, hugging your curves yet keeping it classy.
