The beautiful "Give Your Heart a Break" singer kicked off the holidays and New Year in style for our December/January 2012 double issue. The X Factor judge reflected on her journey "hitting rock bottom" and spoke gracefully about her bright future.
"I can’t tell you how many people I have working with me in recovery. It’s good. It’s positive. [But] it’s a daily battle. Things can still get me down sometimes. But nothing keeps me down.” She was right about that!
Ricky Martin, 40
The Puerto Rican pop star looked sexier than ever on the cover of our February 2012 issue. In the cover story, we asked the icon about fatherhood, his lead Broadway role in Evita, and how coming out of the closet was liberating for him, “[It was important] for myself, my family, my core fans," he said, "They feel more in touch with me and I feel more in touch with them. If I feel free, they’re going to feel free and vice versa. It’s contagious.”
Christina Aguilera, 32
The "Beautiful" singer shined flawlessly for the March 2012 cover. In the issue, X-Tina addressed being a single mom, her estranged relationship with her father and more.
When talking about not being Latina enough to some, she expressed, “I’ve dealt with that my whole life. I don’t speak the language fluently. And I’m split right down the middle, half Irish and half Ecuadorean. I should not have to prove my ethnicity to anyone. I know who I am.”
La La Anthony, 33
The reality television star helped us spring into spring and posed in full color for our April 2012 issue. On her career, the ambitious star said, “I’m never satisfied—career-wise…I’m always looking for the next thing. Why can’t I be a great mom, wife, TV host, actress, producer, have my own reality show and makeup line? The hard part is balancing it all.”
Naya Rivera, 25
The Glee star tapped into her inner diva for our May 2012 cover. The star chatted with us about her role as Santana Lopez on the hit show, her religion, and on preparing to drop her debut solo album.
On playing an out-of-the-closet lesbian on television she said, “I get so many tweets a day from people thanking me and saying how the role has changed their lives, enabling them to come out.”
Victor Cruz, 26
The Puerto Rican star athlete covered out annual Hot Guys double issue for June/July 2012. The New York Giants wide receiver and Super Bowl champ spoke about how hardships like his father’s death and the strong women in his family.
When reflecting on his Latin roots, he brought up his grandmother Lucy Molina and said, "[She] taught me how to be Puerto Rican…She was stern, she was confident, and my mother was the same way. [She] never took no for an answer, never took anything for granted, never took anything lightly. I think Puerto Ricans are like that.”
Gloria Estefan, 55
The Cuban icon graced our cover for the August 2012 issue. Gloria opened up about her marriage to Emilio Estefan, her responsibility as a role model, and her upcoming TV project as a mentor on the CW series, The Next: Fame is at Your Doorstep.
“Inspiring Latinas is the most beautiful side product of my career. It’s a beautiful thing to inspire somebody in some way and make them feel, 'I can do this,'” she said.
Rosario Dawson, 33
The Puerto Rican and Cuban actress dominated the spotlight for our September 2012 fashion issue. The actress and activist chatted about Voto Latino, which she co-founded and her high school reunion dramedy, Ten Years, co-starring Channing Tatum.
The single star also opened up about her personal life and talked about having babies in the future. "I won’t be able to act anymore. I’ll just be focused on trying to make the world a better place for my baby," she revealed.
Victoria Jusitce, 19
The Victorious star rocked our October 2012 cover with her flawless beauty. In the issue, Victoria dished on her new role in Fun Size and her love for her family.
“We eat together and we laugh together, and it’s honestly my favorite day of the week,” Justice says. “My parents got divorced when I was young, but I grew up around the Puerto Rican side of the family, so I’m definitely immersed in that culture.”
Eva Longoria, 37
The stunning chicana graced our November 2012 cover and dished on non-stop career post–Desperate Housewives, her television projects, and more.
She also spoke about why continuing her education is important to her, "As an actress, there’s a stereotype that we can’t be smart, we can’t be political, we can’t be civic-minded or engaged. We just have to stay in front of the camera and look pretty,” Longoria said. “No, I’m human. I can do more.”
