When you were running, did you ever think, “I would go to the World Championship and medal?”
I definitely thought about it. It was my dream come true. I knew it was possible but I just knew day in and out I had to improve myself. I had to better myself in training and in life. It was not easy. A lot of my time went to training. I don’t really have that many friends that I visit or anything. It’s either just phone calls but a lot of time was sacrificed and it was well worth it and I’m going to try to continue that for the next 10 years.
When they call your name at the start of a race how do you feel?
It puts a smile on my face. It motivates me. I think when I get positive reinforcement it just makes me want to give back as well. There are a lot of things that I want to do through my running so I feel this is just the beginning.
What do you hope to do in the future?
Honestly, I want to inspire little girls. I just actually had a training camp on the weekend, right after I made the team. A three-day weekend where I had five girls from different high schools come by. We talked about a lot of things; positive thinking, law of attraction, injury prevention, healthy choices when it comes to food. It was a good feeling and I want to do more. Hopefully, by the next few years the group will be bigger, and we can host more girls. I’m always trying to find ways to give back.
