Inspiring Latina of the Week: Domestic Violence Survivor Sandra Guynes

Sandra Guynes is a nurse educator, artist, domestic violence survivor, and the president and founder of Pearls for Creative Healing, Inc–a nonprofit organization providing help to survivors of domestic violence.

Currently located in Charlotte, North Carolina, Sandra created this organization to empower domestic violence survivors by, “Raising the awareness of domestic violence and providing a platform for healing through arts.” Pearls for Creative Healing, Inc holds monthly art workshops, helping women with the healing process by giving them hope, encouragement, and an outlet of expression.

Last year, Sandra started the End The Silence photography project, providing 20 domestic violence survivors the opportunity to be pampered with a professional makeup and hair session, followed by a photo shoot to represent their story. These pictures have been seen all over Charlotte, with the hopes of creating conversation and ending the silence. In addition, Sandra speaks at women’s groups, schools, and churches to help educate women about domestic violence.

For her enduring strength, her passion for helping others, and her powerful story of survival, Sandra Guynes is this week’s Inspiring Latina.
