Redesigning, redecorating, even adding one simple piece to your home can be overwhelming for the amateur decorator (which, face it, most of us are—even if we’d like to believe otherwise). Where does this piece go? Does it look best here or there? Does this color even fit the look I’m going for?! Add to this the potential costs to outfit your suite and we’re talking major stress.

Even though I’ve been working as a home stylist for a while now, I’m still amazed at how a room can transform in one day—literally. In most cases, it’s the same furniture I originally found in the space, but with a new paint color and accessories it can look so much better!
Check out the examples above. In the before photo (on the left), the tangerine walls did not complement the brown furniture. It clashed and made the room appear muddy even though the furniture was brand new.

When we choose a color scheme for a room, black & white is probably not the first choice that comes to mind. It might sound too boring and plain. I actually wanted to dispel the myth by doing a bedroom makeover in these classic colors.

If you’re looking to add lots of visual interest on your wall, why not look to the floor? I'm talking about area rugs! They come in so many patterns, textures and colors that it doesn't make sense to only walk on them. Once installed, they resemble wallpaper panels. Here is this month’s Design Detail, which is where I highlight a quick DIY project on a budget.

We can all go out and buy a photo frame and mat at any retail store, but here’s a great idea to customize it to your home décor by wrapping the mat in fabric. It is this month’s Design Detail, which is where I highlight a quick DIY project on a budget. So simple and so effective!

Remember the days when we all had a bulky television set or even worse—a gigantic projection screen television in our home? Now, they've been replaced by streamlined flat screens, and although I agree that they look much better, it can still be a challenge integrating them into our home’s décor. I find this is especially true when it’s mounted directly on the wall because it definitely screams, “here I am.” It can appear to be a black hole in the space.

Decorating one bedroom that is shared by both a girl and a boy can be a daunting task. Many parents face this dilemma and are afraid of making the décor too girly or too boyish. I recently came across this challenge as well and wanted to share some tips that might help.

One of the biggest trends in furniture is incorporating storage in the design, turning what would have been unused space into an added value for the customer. We see this often in coffee tables. There’s a great selection from trunks to ottomans that offer compartments for books, magazines, toys, DVDs or whatever your heart desires. They can range from $300 to $500 depending on the style.

Things are hectic but calm in my home. My mami, abuelo and madrina have arrived and my daughters are enjoying lots of play time with them. Last night we wrapped last minute presents and read stories about Santa and reindeers and snowmen. Today we'll be cooking up a storm and baking away the day for a busy Nochebuena and Christmas Day with lots of family.
I hope you all get to spend these holidays with family and friends. Feast on good food, dance around the tree and just slow down for a couple of days.
