When I first saw this living room, I have to admit I was scared. Almost everything needed to be replaced but I only had a $1,000 budget to take it from the oh-so-out-of style 80s to a contemporary, updated look. I was up to the challenge and believe me, it can be done.
To completely transform a room for under $1,000, the first step is to find the clearance section at the furniture store. All major retailers have one. By doing so, I was able to purchase the sofa for only $300 only because it was actually the left side of a sectional piece. I also found two armless accent chairs for only $50 each! I loved these chairs because you can position them in many ways throughout the room.
I also saved money by buying a set of table lamps and floor lamp for only $28, again on clearance, at Home Depot. Home improvement stores are a great resource for area rugs, lighting, even window treatments; but it’s not typically the first place that comes to mind when we need to shop for home décor. In addition to clearance shopping, the best way to save money is to recycle what you already have. The homeowner’s current coffee and end tables had a tired white base, but a quick coat of bronze spray paint immediately updated the look.
Finally, some fresh paint, new curtain panels to hide the verticals, and decorative accessories like toss pillows and candles helped to breath new life into the living space and gave the entire room a facelift for under $1,000!
