And so the Latina Staff Health Challenge comes to a close, but my personal one is far from over. Throughout these 90 days I saw how it was possible to gain weight if I kept on top of things and then how easily I lost it if I so much as skimped on a meal. The frustrations came in when after gaining several pounds within the first few weeks, I lost a couple just as fast. I had to banish my scale to underneath the bed when I saw how much importance I was giving those numbers. That constant up and down affected my motivation to keep trying.
Clearly I still have work to do (I’m currently at 83 pounds) and it will take more than three months to get to where I need to be. Until better habits become a part of who I am, the temptation of slipping into an unhealthy lifestyle will always be there. It’s scary how easy it is for me to just fall off!
So instead of thinking of my self-imposed challenge as another 90-day course, I’ll take it day by day. And today, right now, I’m enjoying a nice sandwich during my break. Good thing, too, because I’m going to need all the energy I can get for the battle up ahead.
