Staff Health Challenge: Feeling the Burn

I like pain. When I used to play competitive sports it was how I knew I was really pushing myself and giving my all. I'm pretty sure it has something to do with the endorphin kick you get when you are really physically exerting yourself, something people refer to as a "runner's high"—but you can get it from doing just about any cardio exercise for an extended period of time. So now, when I work out, I strive to for that feeling.

The trouble is, it is really hard to push myself that hard all on my own. Enter Phoenix Carnevale, fitness expert and my go-to gal for all things exercise during this challenge. This week I was kind of feeling lazy. I just couldn't muster the energy to get my butt in gear, so I joined her at the gym and took two of her classes back to back, a strength building core class followed by one of her infamous kickboxing classes. Oh. My. God. I thought I was going to die at some points. But I didn't, I powered through and in the process learned that I was a lot stronger than I would have ever imagined!

Phoenix's inspiring energy and awesome classic hip-hop playlist kept my mind off of the fact that my abs, arms and thighs were working harder than they had in a long while. The next day? Well, that's another story...
