SPF & You! Why You Need Sunscreen Every Single Day

A recent study done by the US Center for Disease Control found that people of color were more likely to be diagnosed with skin cancer at later and more fatal stages of the disease and had lower survival rates than their lighter skinned sisters. With more than one million new skin cancer cases being diagnosed every year, this is clearly info that Latinas can not ignore!

A lot of us with darker skin tones don't burn as easily, which many times makes us believe that we don't really need to wear sun screen all the time. While women of color have the benefit of more melanin in our skin (which helps protect our skin from some environmental damage), this does not make us immune to the damaging effects of the sun. The built-in sunblock provided by the melanin in our skin is just not enough. Unless you want to end up looking like Leather Face from those terrifying Texas Chainsaw Massacre flicks, you better start slathering on the sunscreen on any areas exposed on a regular basis to the suns rays.

Most doctors recommend at least an SPF of 15, but you are safest with SPF 30. From potions that balance your skin tone to all natural organic creams, here are our 5 favorite sunscreens!
