Men Can’t Read Women’s Emotions Through Eyes, Study Says

Ladies, when a man stares into your eyes, don’t let (for one second) your knees weaken and believe you’re in some scene a la The Notebook. In reality, he may be peering into your pupils, but reading your emotions is the last thing he’s doing. And that’s because he can’t seem to do that very well.

A study from LWL-University Hospital in Bochum, Germany reveals that men do struggle to read women’s emotions by looking into their eyes. This is why books like “Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus” exist, isn't it?

Before you check this off as another way to cut men some slack when they piss us off (because we do that sometimes), here’s a little more information on the Reading-the-Mind-in-the-Eyes Test (as it was called). Researchers placed 22 men between the ages of 21 and 52 years into a brain-scanning MRI machine and showed them black-and-white pictures of both male and female eyes. They were asked to decide between two presented words (for example, “distrustful” or “terrified”) and were also asked to judge whether the eyes belonged to a man or a woman. According to the study results, the participants showed “greater problems recognizing emotions from female compared to make eyes.”
