Cancer affects everyone from our neighbors, friends, and family, to celebrities. According to the American Cancer Society, prostate cancer is the leading cancer in Hispanic men while breast cancer dominates among Latin women. 1. Cancer Survivors: Sofia Vergara
The Colombian actress known for being the queen of comedy on Modern Family has gone through her share of struggles. Sofia was diagnosed with thyroid cancer when she was 28 years old. In her interview with ABC Nightline, she reflected on her reaction when she heard the news, "You always think, 'death.' You don't -- that's all you think when they tell you that." However, she kept telling herself, “Let’s keep going,” and her endurance paid off. She received treatment back in 2000, and is living cancer free today.
2. Cancer Survivors: Robi Draco Rosa

The Puerto Rican rocker was diagnosed with stomach cancer in 2011. The former Menudo band member underwent treatment for 18 months and is currently cancer free. Draco Rosa took to Twitter on May 30, 2013 to announce the incredible news: "Familia: I went in yesterday for a pet scan. Today my results came in; I'm free. So happy!! #cancerfree #celebration #love #faith #gratitude."
3. Cancer Survivors: Adamari Lopez
In 2005, the Puerto Rican actress was diagnosed with stage I breast cancer. After surgery and treatment, doctors confirmed that she was in remission and on the path towards a healthy life. Adamari now dedicates her time towards creating breast cancer awareness in the Latina community. She told us exclusively, “I’ve always had a lot of faith in God. I’m a very positive person and I believe that life is worth fighting for.” Adamari currently promotes Yoplait's Save Lids to Save Lives campaign, which helps support cancer research.
4. Cancer Survivors: Alejandra Guzman
In 2007, the Mexican rock singer was diagnosed with breast cancer. During her battle, Alejandra told El Universal, “I have a strong desire to live, love, sing, be free, and happy. I don’t care about the material stuff because I enjoy the simple things in life.”
5. Cancer Survivors: Ana Maria Polo
Ana Maria Polo
She’s known for her no nonsense personality as the lead judge on Telemundo’s Caso Cerrado. The Cuban television personality has been cancer free for over three years and serves as a celebrity spokeswoman for Liga Contra El Cancer, which helps bring cancer awareness to Spanish-language households.
