Childhood Obesity Rates Finally Declining

According to a release from the CDC, the Vital Signs report found that states such as Florida, Georgia, Missouri, New Jersey, South Dakota (as well as the U.S. Virgin Islands) saw at least a one percentage point decrease in their respective obesity rates. Puerto Rico and 20 states, however, stayed at their current obesity rate.

Dr. Frieden was clear to state that obesity remains an epidemic, but the “tide has begun to turn for some kids in some states.”

“While the changes are small, for the first time in a generation they are going in the right direction,” he added. “Obesity in early childhood increases the risk of serious health problems for life.”

According to Fox News Latino, one in 8 preschoolers is obese in the United States, and it's even more common in black and Hispanic kids.
