As beauty editor, I have the fun task of keeping Latina’s beauty content up-to-date so that you, our audience, can stay on top of the latest and greatest in the beauty industry. That means interviewing experts, attending events and—best of all!—playing with beauty products. A tough job, I know, but as they say, someone’s gotta do it. Here’s a glimpse into some of what makes up my day.

When a beauty brand is launching a new product—whether it be a breakthrough skincare ingredient or an innovation in hair care—they often have an event where they share the news to all of us beauty editors at once. It could be via a formal presentation or in a more interactive way, like when I got to go to the Aveda headquarters to learn how they make their fragrances. And just two weekends ago, a hair brand took us to L.A. to attend the MTV Movie Awards. Did you see who I took as my date?
Meeting with Experts
It’s no surprise that a lot of inspiration for stories comes directly from the hair and makeup experts I meet while at events. They’re out there trying new styles, working with celebrities and creating the trends that we see on the runway or red carpet. Here I am with hairstylists Leonardo Rocco, Jen Atkin and Mark Townsend. Atkin (who works with celebs like J.Lo and Sofia Vergara) swapped engagement stories with me and, of course, gave me wedding day hair tips.
Testing New Products
One of the best things about my job is getting a first look at next season’s products—everything from eyeliners to dry shampoo. It’s not unusual for a coworker to pop into my office and see me testing out a new curling iron or giving myself a fresh manicure. Hey, it’s part of the job…
#MANIMONDAY IS EVERY DAY
Speaking of manicures, it’s rare for a new nail polish to pass by my desk without me giving myself a mani and then promptly posting it on Instagram. Follow me @afloresbeauty, if you don’t mind the endless nail posts!
Sometimes, instead of products being sent via a messenger service or FedEx, they are hand-delivered by these gorgeous men. Like I said, it’s a tough job…
I love when I get to speak directly to the Latina audience. This week, I flew to Miami for the day (yes, the DAY!) to host an event at the Dadeland Mall. I spent the afternoon giving customers fragrance consultations for Dior’s J’Adore collection.
Share the Wealth
Getting dozens of beauty products a day means lots to share with my friends. I love showing up at happy hour with a surprise bag (or bags) of goodies!
I Love New York
But the best part is getting to work in New York. The purple shade of this sunset was inspiration for an upcoming makeup story. Stay tuned!
