Commentary: "Today I Was Called a N*gger"

thinkstock

Today I was called a n*gger.

Granted it wasn’t to my face and it was by strangers, but it was still shocking and unexpected. The culprit? Good old social media, specifically Twitter. Of course I see the irony in complaining about social media and then writing and posting about my feelings, but cut me some slack.

It all started with a manicure. I arrived at the nail salon a few minutes before the film crew for Lindsay Lohan’s new reality show on OWN. From what I could gather, Lilo was there with her friend to get a pedicure and would get the “surprising” news that a building’s board wasn’t OK with her moving in. Or some such nonsense like that. I honestly could not pay attention, since I was so mesmerized by a) how much older she looked (kids, stay away from drugs) and b) could not believe someone was actually capturing this trivialcrap to feed to the masses later on (Oh Oprah, how you continuously disappoint me).

Once I left the spa, I tweeted: “Lilo at my nail salon filming for OWN show. Restrained myself from checking my purse to make sure my wallet was still there. #lohan”
