10 Ways To Tell You're Latina

Retna Ltd.
With all the recent frenzy about who is Latina and who isn't (Fergie, J. Alba , etc.) we decided to create the definitive lists of characteristics that can help you determine whether or not you have what it takes to be Latina.
You know you are Latina:
- If you can't fight the urge to clap on a plane that has just landed!
- If your boyfriend plucks, waxes or in any other way grooms his eyebrows even more than you do, then you are most likely a Latina...dating a Latino!
- If even though you're fluent in English, you still refer to going grocery shopping as a compra.
- If you have ever committed the cardinal sin and fashion faux pas of wearing socks with sandals!
- If something immensely sad or something immensely adorable both elicit the exact same response of "Ay Bendito!".
- If your grandmother's chancletas seemed to have some mystical boomerang powers, you know, she threw it at you and somehow it was magically back in her hand before you could even look up from your hiding place, then you are definitely Latina!
- If Vick's VaporRub was pronounced Bibaporú and used by everyone in your family to cure anything from burns to acne to La Gripa to infertility.
- If you have ever sat down on a couch and then immediately fallen off because of the slippery smooth surface created by the plastic covering the entire living room set...Latina all the way baby!
- If you grew up with a mother and/or grandmother who made you eat a ton of their food to prove how much you loved them, and then called you gordita five minutes later while pinching your chichos!
- If you are completely fed up with being called, fiery, spicy, caliente or any other adjective that could also describe a chili pepper, you are absolutely, positively, undeniably Latina.
What do you think? Let us know and be sure to share any other surefire sign of Latinidad with us!

Ok, so first thing is that not all latinos are Hispanics. I am latina and I am Brazilian. I don't relate to much of your list. Perhaps the indiscriminate use of Vick Vaporub (which we called "vicky vaporube") and the annoying "spicy" epithets. Latinas come in different colors, shapes and even languages. I have curly hair, light skin and green eyes; my mother can't cook and we never had plastic on our furniture. Anyway, I am a Latina--just as I am many other things, because my identity cannot be restricted to a single, monolithic, limited label.

i'm a latina too. and i could relate to everything on that list. but whats funny is that people get so angry about a stupid list when in fact they should be overlooking the fact that people are trying to insult them and consider the fact that its true, if you dont RELATE TO 1 of the things on this list THEN YOUR NOT LATINA/LATINO

ok i was not insulted by that list even though i only relate to a few, but i seriously take offense to your comment. this is a list of stereotypes that we can joke about but don't define us. latinas are all different people and we don't have to fit a stereotype to be who we are. you may not have the same background and culture and family as a "typical american" but that doesn't make you any less of one. i'm not about to let anyone tell me I'm not Latina, especially just because I don't fit a stereotype perfectly. if you can relate to all of this, great, but if not, don't let anyone tell you you're not who you are because of it. being latina is about culture, and most importantly, the people who you came from, not about stereotypes or about being the same.

We are all wemen and proud hispanics. Instead of concentraiting on what were labled as we should be sticking together, looking out for eachother. How will hispanics ever be heard if we cant get along amongst ourselfs? Either way people that r not hispanics see us all the same, why cant we? Some people just need to open their eyes and see past their pride. :)
