Venezuela Wins Miss Universe...Again!

If you somehow managed to endure Heidi Montag's performance during the Miss Universe pageant, you were rewarded with Miss Venezuela's Stefania Fernandez, 18, winning the title, and you are to be commended!

Fernandez was crowned by last year's winner, Dayana Mendoza, also from Venezuela (we're beginning to detect a pattern here). It the first time in the history of the pageant that two contestants from the same country have won the title in consecutive years. Stefania Fernandez hails from the Merida state in Venezuela and was considered a strong favorite, as was the first runner up, Miss Dominican Republic Ada Aimee De la Cruz. But it was Stefania who ultimately beat out 80 other girls to claim the Miss Universe crown.

As Miss Universe, Stefania will have use of a luxurious NYC apartment for a year and all of her living expenses will be paid. She will also receive a two-year scholarship to the New York Film Academy, an all-expense paid trip to the Bahamas and whole new wardrobe. ¡Felicidades, Stefania!

I'm a raging opinionista and I love to share my ramblings on everything from pop culture to food to stuff that makes me laugh & cry! I've worked in all types of media (TV, film, print) and was previously the online editor at Latina magazine before joining Mamás Latinas. On most nights you can find me working my way through my library of cookbooks or playing with my puppy Lola (my only child so far). I have a wonderful hubby who shares my passion for any and all kinds of travel. Together, we've formed a semi-professional wine drinking team.
