A birthday celebration turned tragic this week when Ingrid Rivera, a 24-year-old guest at rapper Lil' Kim's birthday party at New York nightclub Spotlight Live on Sunday night, was found dead at the club. Her body was discovered in a utility closet on Wednesday by maintenence workers.
Ingrid was apparently the victim of a planned attack by Sayed Rahman, an employee of the club. Rahman, who is currently in custody, and told police he chose Rivera as a target because she seemed drunk when he saw her outside the club. Rahman said he convinced her to come to the roof of the club with him and then attacked her. NY Daily News suggests he may have been trying to rape or rob her.
Rivera's mother, Ingrid Estrada, called police Tuesday after not hearing from her daughter, who lived with her. "My only daughter, I have no more daughter," Estrada said between sobs Wednesday night. "I was a single mother for all my life. I work hard for her."
Ronn Torossian, a spokesman for Lil' Kim, said that the singer "mourns the death of Ms. Rivera." He also clarifies that Kim didn't know Rivera personally.
