Brazilian beauty Camila Alves looked amazing at the Critics’ Choice Awards red carpet, sporting a sleek knotted 'do styled by NYC-based celebrity hairstylist Peter Butler. We caught up with Butler to talk about how to recreate the 'do, the easiest ways to get the look and what type of hair is absolutely perfect for this hairstyle.

"Camila has pretty curly, but fine hair that tends to frizz a bit. It needs some heat and attention to get it looking as sleek as possible," he said. "It's really about the details: getting a clean part and a really tight ponytail are always the hardest parts of a style like this. I used a comb so I could get all of the hair moving in one direction and really tight. But don't overwork the hair! The more you keep messing with it, the harder it's going to be to really get the look you want."

So who should wear this style? Anyone! "Obviously, the person who will have no problems is a person with long hair without any layers or short pieces. But if you use a comb and blow-dry your hair out straight with no volume, you really can create the look at home no matter your hair type."

Butler suggests using a small toothbrush sprayed with a bit of hairspray to smooth back any flyways at your hairline. "Don't be afraid to try it, but I'd recommend keeping your makeup really simple and clean, like Camila's. It didn't look like she was trying too hard."

And, in the end, don't be afraid of some innovation. "We were actually going to do just a ponytail, but last minute I decided to knot it and leave some of the ends out. I think it ended up really great!"

Here, Butler breaks down Camila’s hairstyle:

1. First, Butler applied John Frieda Frizz Ease Curl Reviver Mousse to Camila’s wet hair and blew it dry.  He applied a couple drops of new John Frieda Frizz Ease Nourishing Oil Elixir to smooth out frizz for ultimate sleek locks.

2. Next, he parted her hair down the center.  For the cleanest part possible, he used a flat iron at the hairline.

3. Then, Butler applied a few drops of John Frieda Frizz Ease Expert Finish Polishing Serum and ran a comb through Camila’s hair to make it as sleek as possible as he shaped it into a low ponytail. For added shine he misted John Frieda Frizz Ease 100% Shine Glossing Mist.  An expert tip is to spray hairspray onto a haircolor brush and comb hair from root to ends for an even, sleek look.

4. Lastly, using three large pins, Butler twisted hair into an off-center knot around the base of the ponytail, leaving the ends out.  To lock in style, he sprayed John Frieda Frizz Ease Moisture Barrier Firm Hold Hairspray.
