The island of Puerto Rico was, for a very long time for me, the small town of Guayama, where my family lives and everything shuts down by 9PM. Thankfully, I was recently introduced to all the fab things this little island has to offer, like hip nightlife, picturesque towns and stunning hotels. The most recent resort I visited was the Gran Meliá Golf Resort in Río Grande.
This resort has every thing you could ever want—from a humongous pool with a wet bar to a relaxing spa and super friendly service. I arrived just in time to visit Chef Myrta's recently opened Pasión restaurant. One taste of Myrta’s traditional Boricua cuisine and you can tell she has had a ton of experience in the kitchen. Everything tastes homemade, but with a sophisticated twist. Her Asapoa de Camaron was hearty yet light enough to enjoy as an appetizer, and according to local legend is the perfect remedy for a hangover! The fish is a must-have as it's super fresh and can be prepared any which way you can imagine. Don’t get intimidated by the size of your catch of the day either. Remember, you’re there to eat the fish, not visa-versa! And what a wonderful, delicious fish it is.
Pasion also serves a variety of innovative mojitos. Almost any fruit you can dream of can be mixed in to your drink. The Gran Meliá Resort provides the sweeping vistas that Puerto Rico has to offer, but with Pasión you get the soul of the island—its food.
