Imagine this: a candle-lit environment with dim red lighting, dark curtains, live flamenco music— this alone is worth a visit—and a vibe that screams “Hot, Sexy, Latin, Fuego!”
From the moment I entered La Zarza I felt as if I was having some sort of secret affair. The melodrama died down once the waiter came and my novio and I were seated, but the atmosphere was still totally romantic. We started off with the delicious Strawberry Caipiroska (muddled strawberries, vodka, and lime). The food is a combo of Spanish and Argentinean with a nouveau twist.
Instead of your typical bread basket they served theirs with a chick pea puree like hummus, but slightly different. The Costillas al membrillo $9 (glazed boneless short ribs with caramelized onions) were so tender they melted in my mouth. Cangrejo alioli $16 (Soft shell crab and crab meat sitting on top of scallions, fresh spinach and potatoes with a light foam of aliolo and cream) was different, but still good, and the Datiles $9 (Almond stuffed dates wrapped on smoked bacon) provided a great flavor combo of sweet and salty. The Cod fish came with a sweet potato mash that had peppers and garlic and was to-die-for. If you’re looking for a romantic night out or a place to party, as this place turns into a club on weekend, then come check out La Zarza.
